Surface Tension
Membranes, tethers, and minor protections, 2019–2025.
I alight from the bus with Hokkien still ringing in my ears. The rhythm follows me home as I cross the street into my building, past the centrifugal fan, through the security gate and to the lift serving even-numbered floors. Its doors open just as I reach it.
I’m sweating. My t-shirt sticks to my back. The lift holds me between floors and thoughts. My heart rate slows in the cooler air. Here, sixteen stories above the street in a concrete shaft, I notice the suspension between velocity and stillness.
